Matthias Grunsky is a cinematographer based in Los Angeles. In the last seven years he has shot several independent feature films in the USA such as “Funny Ha Ha” and “Mutual Appreciation”, both directed by Andrew Bujalski ( “Someone to Watch Award” at the Independend Spirit Awards 2002) and "American Zombie" directed by Grace Lee. Grunsky has also lensed many documentaries, short films and commercials in Europe and the USA and is a member of the German Society of Cinematographers, bvk. Matthias Grunsky was raised and educated in Vienna, Austria. His interest in filmmaking started at the early age of 10 when he used to shoot Super 8 films with friends at school. Right after High School he got involved in the professional world of filmmaking and began to work as a clapper loader with cinematographers as Gerard Vandenberg and Lee Daniel (on Richard Linklater’s “Before Sunrise”). He also has worked as stills photographer and later on became a focus puller on movies and tv features in Austria and Germany (”Der See”, “Bella Block”). After 8 years in film business, Grunsky got accepted to the American Film Institute in Los Angeles from which he graduated in Cinematography in 2000.
